FRAGILE PIECE OF ART STATEMENT ENGLISH

Fragile Piece of Art is a performance project by Vasilena Gankovska, which is going to happen on 21st October 2011 in 0 gms Art space in Sofia.

FRAGILE PIECE OF ART is a sentence, warning, slogan or just a stencil, which the artist uses in different context. For the purpose she created a fashion label called MEREDITH EX and produces under this name stenciled t-shirts and bags.

After being used for about four years, FRAGILE PIECE OF ART will be put on a human body, transforming it into a fragile piece of art. In the role of the volonteer we will see Daniela Radeva, a Sofia based art critic and curator. The stencil will be executed in front of the public by Petar Efremov, founder of TOOL TATTOO & PIERCING STUDIO Sofia.

The artist enters the role of the organiser, manager of the project, she develops a working plan, finds the participants and the place for the performance. Everyone, who gets involved will get something in exchange. The reward is rather immaterial and could be labeled as a favour. Daniela Radeva will have a tattoo which is in the same time a piece of art, so she will become a piece of art. In exchange she will contact editors of magazines, who will publish the advertising poster, e.g the announcement and will take an interview from the artist. Petar Efremov and his studio will be featured on all the printing materials and will be mentioned in texts, etc. The curator Vladiya Mihailova will write a critique about the project and will also get involved in it.

After the project the artist will not be allowed to use the stencil FRAGILE PIECE OF ART for whatever reason. Daniela Radeva will be the only person who will get a tattoo with it.
The project will further exist in form of video and photo documentation. The working set of the performance will remain for one day open for the exhibition visitors.
